Fundraising at Eastgate

Fundraising for Local Charities at Eastgate

Eastgate Club has seen its members organise, support and take part in a number of fundraising events over the last couple of months.

On Saturday 18th April there was a 17 miles charity walk from Market Rasen to Lincoln to raise funds for Parkinson’s UK Lincoln and District Branch and in memory of longstanding Eastgate member Pete Warner.  Chris Butler and Mike Garrs planned out a scenic route over fields and bridle paths and through local villages.  Many members participated on a sunny spring day, either doing the full walk or joining at Scothern or Nettleham on the way back to the club for a hearty home cooked lunch from Julia.

On Thursday 4th June, David Coates, Chairman of the Parkinson’s UK Lincoln and District branch, and branch members Ian Clarkson and Shirley Warner came to Eastgate for a presentation evening.  David Coates gave an informative talk about Parkinson’s and the activities, events, welfare and support the Lincoln & District branch offers for its 250 members locally.  Harry Kipling then presented a cheque for £815, the total raised and donated by members, to Parkinson’s UK Lincoln and District Branch.

On Sun 17thMay the club held a fundraising evening for local charity Lincs2Nepal to raise money for those affected by the recent Earthquake in Nepal.  A number of members old and new attended for a Sunday evening of live music and enjoyed one of Simon’s famed BBQ’s!  Local singer Rachael Clark was in great voice treating those attending to three excellent live sets showcasing a breadth of classic and contemporary songs.  She also generously made some scrumptious desserts for those attending to enjoy post- BBQ.  £211 was raised over the course of the evening.

Sun 14th June saw a charity evening organised by Roxy Monaghan in aid of McMillan’s Cancer Relief.  Another well attended evening featuring a comedy drag artist, tombola, games and some had participated earlier in sponsored head shaves and leg waxing!  A big ‘Ouch’ on behalf of those who braved the latter but it helped deliver a ‘hair-raising’ £446 for a worthy cause.

Well done and a big thank you to everyone who organised, supported and attended these events and gave their time and money so generously.  Keep an eye out for more events to enjoy over the next few months!
